2009 Emerald Cup – 6 Weeks out

One funny comment about an article published in a magazine this morning caught my eyes on Facebook!  The article shows pictures of a girl using two 24 ounce water bottles for resistance while doing some very “interesting” moves.  Here, I will take a moment to list the names the article calls these “exercises”: “Biceps Twist with Ab Lift”, “Pass the Bottle”, “Scissor Kick with Biceps Press”, “W-Shaped Arm Press”, and all under the title of…”24 Hour Tone Up”!   Yes, “24 Hour Tone Up”!  “Pass the Bottle”??? Unfortunately, I am not surprised at all!  I have to go through the cash register line every single day reading some of the same garbage the media like to consistenly put on the front pages of our now not so favorite magazines anymore!

Let me tell you how I feel about this just like a true Italian woman would;  I am fed up with this BS and I don’t mean Bachelor of Science!  I take this garbage as an insult to women and to me personally as a trainer!  An attack on those who, with their knowledge and experience, spend their lives helping people reach their goals and look the beautiful, strong, healthy they want to look.  I have to fight the scams my new clients bring into my studio on a daily basis and even some of my recurrent clients find themselves trapped sometimes, and that is where I really get MAD!

Don’t mess with all that hard work and dedication!  Don’t try to brainwash us women into believing that we are not better, stronger, smarter, committed, motivated, more brilliant than that because we are going to put up a fight and I have started that long time ago!  I am winning my battles every day and I feel so accomplished when I see clients like Shelah, age 52 in September, leaving my studio with a pair of size 29 jeans that her 19 year old daughter gave her as a gift on Mother’s Day excited just like a little girl because this is a first for her in a long time.  Did she lift 24 ounce water bottles for her workouts?  Heck no!  Shelah has to actually grunt like a man when working out just to make it through a set!  I can go on and on giving you more of my Italian blooded examples but I will just leave it a that and get some of that frustration out on my treadmill right now.  Don’t worry, I will make sure to hold two 24 ounce bottles in each hand while running my sprints this morning!

And, Just a little about MY 24 HOUR TONE UP I did yesterday…Back and Biceps workout was great.  I stuck to dumbbells, barbells, and plates, no water bottles for me quite yet.  I was a little grumpy…ok, maybe more that a little grumpy, and that actually gave me the extra motivation I needed to push myself hard on a day I really didn’t fell like going thewhole way.  I was proud of myself for doing well and for my husband for putting up with my attitude.  The reflexion of my body in our studio mirrors yesterday was telling a success story so far.  I am full on top, although I am getting leaner!  My scale weight is going down, but not too fast and that is good.  My clients are noticing changes and they like it.  I notice, as I get closer to competition, there is always a good feeling around the studio.  I like to know that people thrive from our work and they are feeling motivated to push themselves a little harder when inspired.
